One of the most important factors contributing to the success of a medical aesthetics practice is the ability to differentiate the practice from the competition. Many practice owners know they are different, but few can effectively articulate what makes them different. Furthermore, even fewer can clearly explain why they are different.  Clearly communicating the “what” and the “why” that makes your practice different can not only level the practice up in the eyes of the marketplace, but it can also create alignment across your team, your patients, and prospective investors.

Spending time thinking about and developing your unique value proposition can not only be a great tool for strategic planning, but it can also serve as your guiding light when it comes to sharing what makes your practice uniquely different...and better than the rest.

Once you know what makes you different and why you are different, you’ll need to be able to articulate very concisely those differentiating factors to the person on the street. Think of it as your elevator pitch. An elevator pitch is a quick yet on point statement to someone you meet in an elevator that vividly describes what your practice does and why. It’s much more and much deeper than saying “We offer Botox, filler, and facials”. Such a statement is not going to leave anyone asking for more. If it does, it won’t leave them believing your practice is better than any other.

Start by asking, “Do we have a clear and concise way to describe the uniqueness of our practice and the value we add?” If the answer is “kinda” or “not really”, then you need to take a moment and think about how such a response can be cause for misalignment, confusion, and low confidence in the marketplace. Wanna know something that will keep you up at night? If you are a little shaky with your response imagine what your team might say. That should be enough to scare you to act quickly!

In the competitive world of branding, your elevator pitch serves as your secret weapon. It's your chance to captivate your audience within a few seconds, leaving a lasting impression before they step off the elevator. With time being a precious commodity, a well-crafted pitch that encapsulates your essence, brand, and services is essential for making meaningful connections.

Crafting the perfect pitch requires simplicity and focus. While your pitch doesn't have to adhere strictly to a script, pondering these questions can guide you in creating a compelling snapshot of who you are, what you offer, and why your brand matters.

Personalizing your pitch to resonate with your target audience is key. Consider who your service or brand caters to and who your ideal patient is. Clearly communicate the unique value your practice and the products and services offered bring and how you address the specific needs of your target clientele.

Delve into the 'why' behind your brand's allure. Share what drives your passion and fuels your practice each day, whether it's a founding spark or a profound purpose. Authenticity is paramount in effective branding. Therefore, articulating what differentiates your practice from the competition matters. Embrace your individuality as a valuable niche in the marketplace.

Lastly, if you or your team are ever engaged in a quick conversation, such as on an elevator or with a prospective patient that walks through the door, always be prepared to leave something with the person you engaged.  Business cards, phone number exchange, etc. can leave a lasting impression. It can also serve as a trigger to spur reflection over the conversation later. Your elevator pitch is your opportunity to shine, so make it count with authenticity, purpose, and a reflection of your brand's unique essence.
